Anda mungkin hanya tahu dua jenis peselingkuh: pria yang berselingkuh dari istrinya, atau berselingkuh dari kekasihnya. Dua-duanya menyebabkan sakit hati dan hilangnya kepercayaan terhadap pasangannya ini.
Namun menurut Dr Doug Weiss, presiden American Association for Sex Addiction Therapy dan pendiri situs konseling SexAddict.com, ada 6 jenis peselingkuh. Tidak semua dari peselingkuh ini adalah pecandu seks, namun ada peselingkuh kambuhan yang memang memiliki masalah kecanduan seks.

1. Si pemburu
Tipe ini cerdas, sukses, dan pintar bicara, yang memancarkan energi seksual atau narsisistik tertentu. Mereka biasanya mencari orang yang rapuh, kesepian, atau justru pecandu seks lain untuk menikmati quickie sex. Mereka punya pickup lines atau modus operandi yang jelas untuk memerangkap korbannya. Tetapi mereka tidak akan mencari tipe pemburu lain, karena akan menyakiti mereka. Contoh tipe ini adalah Tiger Woods, yang menurut Dr Weiss mencari tipe wanita tertentu yang muda, cantik, langsing, dan rela melakukan apa saja untuknya.
“Korban mereka bukan wanita milyuner, bukan bintang olahraga, atau aktris," kata Dr Weiss, tentang wanita-wanita yang pernah dikencani Tiger Woods. "Tak satu pun dari wanita ini yang memiliki kekuasaan. Pokoknya mereka bukan ancaman."
2. Si pahlawan
Tipe ini biasanya berlagak ingin menolong korbannya yang sedang mengalami kesusahan. Mereka akan mendekati korbannya sambil berpura-pura menjadi pendengar yang baik mengenai kehidupan si korban. Korban tentu merasa sangat dihargai dan dimengerti, sehingga menaruh kepercayaan pada si pahlawan ini. Kepercayaan ini lalu disambut dengan gembira, karena artinya jalan untuk mendapatkan si korban semakin dekat. Bahkan setelah mereka berhasil merebut hati si korban, mereka akan tetap dipandang sebagai pria yang manis. "Pahlawan ini ingin mendengar wanita memujanya," kata Dr Weiss.
3. Tipe korban
Tipe ini justru sebaliknya, berperan sebagai korban. Mereka akan berkeluh-kesah pada teman wanitanya, bahwa istrinya tidak pernah memperhatikan, menghargai, apalagi ingin berhubungan intim dengannya. Orang ini berlagak mencari seseorang bisa membantunya keluar dari permasalahannya, membuat wanita calon korbannya merasa iba. Padahal, dengan cara itulah mereka menjerat korban sesungguhnya.
“Pria seperti ini memanipulasi wanita melalui rasa iba,” kata Dr Weiss. Lagi-lagi ia menjadikan Tiger Woods sebagai contohnya. Tiger disebut-sebut selalu mengeluh tidak bahagia dalam pernikahannya dengan istrinya, Elin, untuk meyakinkan wanita lain supaya mau tidur dengannya.
4. Tipe oportunis
Tipe ini bisa mengincar seseorang yang 20 tahun lebih muda atau lebih tua, gemuk atau kurus, kaya atau kekurangan. Mereka akan merasa senang jika diinginkan atau didambakan orang lain, sehingga siapa saja yang menginginkan mereka tentu akan diterima dengan antusias. Mereka tak peduli bagaimana penampilan korbannya, atau apa latar belakangnya. Pendeknya, selama ada kesempatan, mereka akan berusaha mendapatkannya. "Tipe oportunis ini mencari wanita dalam kondisi apa pun," ujar Dr Weiss.
5. Tipe profesional
Ini tipikal pria pada umumnya. Tipe ini tidak mencari cinta, tidak peduli pada keinginan atau kebutuhan korbannya, atau apa yang dipikirkan korban mengenai diri mereka. Sebab mereka sebenarnya menjalani kehidupan normal, memiliki istri yang baik, anak-anak yang manis, dan pekerjaan yang mapan. Tetapi mereka bisa menjadi badung ketika mereka menginginkannya. Karena itu mereka berusaha menyembunyikan semua aksinya. Menurut mereka, “Kalau tidak ada yang tahu, tidak akan ada yang sakit hati.”
6. Tipe pemuja
Ini tipe peselingkuh yang paling spesifik. Mereka hanya menginginkan satu tipe wanita tertentu, yang sangat terbatas. Bahkan, mereka berani mengambil risiko untuk menerima satu kesempatan langka bersama wanita yang mereka inginkan. Mereka bisa membagi-bagi hatinya, dan seringkali merasa memiliki hak untuk melakukan perselingkuhan.
“Mereka berselingkuh untuk memenuhi desakan akan tipe wanita tertentu," ujar Dr Weiss, sambil menambahkan bahwa kriterianya antara lain suku, ukuran, atau apa pun yang tidak mereka temukan pada diri pasangan mereka.
Apa pun tipe peselingkuh yang Anda temui, Anda masih punya kesempatan untuk memperbaiki hubungan. “Jalan keluarnya tetap sama: kejujuran, pertanggungjawaban, dukungan, dan mengatasi masalah karakter dan psikologis mereka," katanya. "Dan, mereka bisa kok menjadi lebih baik, asalkan mereka mau."
